Walkamin was built during the construction of Tinaroo Dam in the 1950s
Located 600 metres above sea level, Walkmin provides a much cooler climate for our guests

Described as food bowl country, the site for the town was chosen due to its perfectly balanced weather patterns with the ideal climate for a wide variety of crops – anything from mangoes, peanuts, bananas and avocados to coffee and tequila (well agave).

Walkamin Caravan Park was originally named the Walkamin Caravan Park when it was established in 2005. Set on a sprawling 10 acres of land, the Walkamin Caravan Park benefits from wide frontage to the Kennedy Highway on one side and kilometres of designated walking/bike tracks on the other.

Most of our guests intend to stay just a couple of nights but upon arrival they’re succumbed to the spell of our lovely, spacious caravan park and its magnetic powers.

Hence our tagline of – Stay a Little Longer – the name rings true, so be mindful of this when booking with our wonderful team.

Scattered around the park are relics of machinery from earlier days and there is even a windmill, although it doesn’t pump water these days.

A little bit of history

Lucy and Terry, the original owners and founders didn’t open just another caravan park located on the Tablelands. Lucy, visited nearby Rocky Creek free camp and asked people what they wanted in a caravan park.

As a result of this survey they found that RV’ers don’t like to be regimented into rows so they made the layout of this spacious park into groups of four rigs around a pole with four power outlets, four taps and a dustbin.

This has turned out to be a major attraction, with everyone able to have lots of space and park whichever way suits our guests.

Back in the early days, Lucy ran the park from their adjoining house. But since then, they have built an office onsite and appointed additional team members to run the day to day operation of the park prior to Lucy and Terry’s retirement in 2019.
